An Update on Tom (#6)

"Tom had OT come to see him today. He talked to him for quite a while and assessed his strength or I should say his weakness of his left side. Then PT joined him and they took Tom for a walk around the block in the ward. Tom actually walked by himself with each of the therapist walking on either side in case he would get weak but they didn't even touch him. It was amazing to see.

The doctor ordered an MRI which he had this evening to rule out a venous bleed. They would have liked to have seen more strength in his left side by now but they are hopeful that with therapy he could be back to normal.  The doctor will be in tomorrow and we'll find out the result of the MRI but the plan is to do a transfer to a hospital in Winnipeg so that he would be able to get some intense therapy not just as an outpatient. It's a matter of waiting for a bed to be available.

It was good to see Tom walk today. It was good to see a genuine appropriate smile from him at noon. It was good to see him making an attempt to get his leg into bed.

The part of the brain that initiates movement was removed and his brain needs to make new pathways. We still have hope that that can happen.

Thank-you for your prayers and words of encouragement. A few have asked whether we have seen Titus yet and the answer is no. Phil and Nicole are still in Rocky Mountain house near midwives adjusting to their new role as parents."
