Aww!!! k6, so cute!! i
First of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for the continuous thought of posting on our blog, but not having ever followed through...I kind of suck that way.
BUT! Its all good. Im here now and that’s what matters, yaaay!
So, I know that I am ALWAYS curious about everyones lives and how they are doing so that MUST mean you guys are curious about mine yeah?
Thank you to for the constant push to update from Deb, Shan and Amelia!
So to be honest, Im going to skip a bunch of boring life experiences from that past and get right to the good stuff. This year especially, I have had many life changes. I finally am pursuing my dream of being a nurse. It certainly was not easy getting there and it is certainly not easy now, but I made it and I am loving it. I will soon be attending my second year of the RN program in Alberta. The choice of location for my program was not my first haha. As I am sure you know, nursing is quite a competitive career and it took a lot no’s before I finally got a yes. I am up in Fort MacMurray. Not sure if anyone is familiar witht he town, but lets just say its the capital of Newfoundland. I have never in my life gone to a place in Canada where I felt that the first language was NOT english. Newfie talk does not compute or translate in my head. Basically, the town of fort mcmurray is an oil town. A lot of rich scummy people who blow a lot of money on quads, strip clubs, trucks and toys for their trucks. It is not my cup of tea, but I will say God really blessed me with an amazing group of friends and instructors. The class sizes are relatively small compared to the U of A. Ive had a great experience learning from some of the best. So I am going back this September to finish my second year, I hope to transfer to the U of A for my third and fourth year so I can be close to my family and my ready for this....FIANCE. BAAAM!!! Which leads to my next exciting story.

Matt and I have been dating for just over 3 years now, and he is down right amazing. You guys would love him to pieces. Sweetest human being ever! For those of you who don’t have me on facebook or never check their facebook, we got engaged at the end of April. Like literally the day I got back from school haha. I knew it was to come, but I did not think 24 hours of being home that I would be an engaged woman! I am so so so happy and excited. I found a dress, found a venue and a photographer! Its been a lot of planning.
Our story is a bit different. Matthew was not a Christian when we first dated. For the first year and a half I felt very challenged by our relationship. The first month we started dating, I gave Matt a bible. He knew I was a christian and he was very accepting of that. It took us a while to be open with each other about how we viewed Christ or God in general. Matt attended church with his family at a young age but had not really grown up with a Jesus based life. It was hard for me to kind of be the leader in that aspect of our lives. But I always encouraged him to come to church with me, start creating relationships with the men in our church and so on. Being away from him this year was actually a really good thing. We would do weekly bible studies over the phone and thats when I really saw Matthews perspective come to life. His knowledge and grip on scripture was so much greater that I had anticipated. He picked up on things that I had never even thought of when reading the bible. He is incredibly smart and he is so eager to learn from Jesus and from others. He has taught me so many things about myself and I am just so happy that I can call my future husband a Christian now! A Christ follower!! God can do great things cant he? I am so tearing up right now, good tears of course! The journey of course is not over, we both have a lot to learn about how to be a strong couple for God.
So thats a bit of background from us. Matt proposed on April 28, 2013 in the beautiful Edmonton River Valley, right across the river from the university grounds. Beautiful right? Well, Malayne was grumpy that day. I had just gotten back from school and wanted to hangout with friends, relax for a bit ya know? However, he was insisting that he take me on a real date, just him and I. I asked him if my friend Tracey could come a long haha!! “No Malayne, just you and I”. “Ugh”, okay I said. So we had dinner at what we knew to be a excellent restaurant downtown. It was not. My food was bad and so was his. That put me into a neven bigger glum-fest. “Matt, I just REALLY wanna go home. It’s raining, why do we have to go for a waaaalllk???”, “Because Malayne, we just do.”- like that reason was remotely good enough. We went, and it was raining and I was angry hahaha! The poor guy, he was so invested and dedicated to this walk!
Before we left the car, he pulled out a present that was wrapped pretty nicely actually. He say’s “During this walk, I am going to give you this present okay?”. “does this book (I could tell) have some sort of significant value or meaning?” “Yes, Malayne it does. And you will find out in a few minutes, no more questions.” “Ugh, fiiiine.”

So we’re down in the walking paths. The air is crisp, theres definitely a harsh wind and pellets of rain directly hitting my face. “Matt!!!! Seriously, lets go back to the car, we can do this IN the car.” “No, I have plan! Stop ruining it” So eventually he turns towards me and says “now you can open your gift” As I am unwrapping, I notice the cover says “Pride and Prejudice” Matt had already given me this book a few years ago..so I was confused. He knew it was my favorite, but I didnt think I needed another copy. This edition was different than mine, so I thought it may had been a vintage copy from my favorite book store. “Okay Malayne, I want you to open the top cover first. DONT skip ahead.” I turned to the first page. He had written a sweet note about how he has enjoyed our time together and can’t wait for the future, along with 1st Corinthians 13. Im sure you all know the famous passage. I turned to the next page and what I saw completely startled me to the point where I almost dropped the book. Inside the book was a box and inside the box with a ring. He had carved the books pages out so the box could fit in without me knowing. Instantly my reaction was “oh man, oh jeez, oh boy!” this is happening right now! All the moments I had in my head are out the window, this is it! Things like “youre the love of my life” and other sweet things were renditioned into the speech.”Malayne Dawn Ennis, will you marry me?” “Of course, YES” and then we kissed and hugged and laughed and cried! Oh and it was still pouring rain so I looked like a wet something. Not my perfect moment, but it was his moment, and thats what mattered! He played it pretty cool I must say. Being an engaged woman by the end of the day sure wasn’t on my mind, but of course I was extremely stoked! We spent the next hour or so calling and texting our friends and family. Then it was over and we were like, “so...now what?” ahha. Just kind of a funny way to end an evening.
