Good news, everyone! Last night at around 3:30 a.m., Tom had a seizure! It was a good one for the doctor's but not so great for Tom, meaning it gave the doctors a really good view of where the activity was, but Tom was really wiped afterward but had a real hard time getting back to sleep. So this morning just before 9, they rolled him into the OR and began the surgery! Dr. Williams came out and addressed the throngs of people waiting (Judy & Ange). He told them that the operation had gone well and Tom was in recovery. Apparently he removed a piece of brain about the size of 5 or six matchboxes stacked on top of each other. Don't freak out, I don't mean the big Red Bird boxes, just the little guys. I know what you're all thinking, and while it is sad that Tom no longer has his helmet and stylish wire ponytail, I don't think he'll be too disappointed.
So now we wait and see. The doctor's said they were able to take out the minimal amount they had wanted to, which is good, but there is a chance that they didn't get all the rogue brain bits and some will still act up and he'll have another seizure. If that happens, they'll go back in and take out a bit more, which they gave the impression was no big deal. So all in all the surgery was a success, Tom is in recovery and will hopefully be home within a few days! Thank you all so much for all your prayers, visits and support. Tom and the rest of us appreciate it a ton!
